The Night that Jon Gave Birth to Zachary the Kidneystone

So one night after a long 12 hour shift at work, I came home, went downstairs and kicked my feet up to go into Tif world and relax. The last thing that I want to deal with when I come home is sick husband/kids. I had been home for 15 minutes when Jon came downstairs and asked me to walk on his back, which is a common thing for him to ask. Jon tweaks his back alot while using the Rotovac at work. So I told him I would in 15 more minutes, I just needed to relax and zone out. Brock came downstairs about 15 minutes later and told me that Jon needed me and that was in alot of pain. So I went upstairs feeling kind of annoyed until I saw Jon as white as a ghost hunched up over the toilet. Jon told me that he was extremely nauseated and was having severe acute lower right sided flank pain. I immediately knew I was in for a long night! And to top it off, Jon refuses to be on my health insurance because in his words "he's as healthy as a horse". (whatever right?) So after 10 more minutes he was writhing around in pain and I knew he needed some kind of help and relief that I couldn't give him. I immediately recognized the symptoms as being a kidney stone. I had been through the same experience twice before and could really empathize with him. From what I've heard is that kidney stones are more painful in men due to their longer Ureters. So we jumped in the car and headed for Intermountain Medical Center. During the drive there, Jon kept telling me to speed and run red lights. Yes, he was in that much pain. It took like 25 minutes for him to finally get triaged and put in a room. During that wait, I managed to make a "pleasant friend" and Jon managed to gross all the other patients out with his violent and loud vomiting. He filled like 3 of the blue bags with vomit mixed with nasty KFC. Then it was triage time and Jon would not sit still and the automatic blood pressure machine kept squeezing and squeezing his arm like in the 230 mm of mercury region and it took forever, so I had to step in and physically hold his arm still. Seriously, he was being a naughty patient. Then we were put in a room and Jon had to put on a gown while still vomiting and writhing in pain. He was a classic kidney stone patient who could not get comfortable. It seemed like 1/2 hour before a doctor finally arrived in the room, even after Jon's silly outbursts like "I could wear a stupid "dress" and be asked to lay down on a bed at home"...."I am seeking drugs HELP!!" etc. Poor guy, he was trying to be comical in spite of his pain.

My Poor Jon waiting for morphine movie! :)

The doctor finally arrived, dx: kidney stone, RN dispatched to give Jon IV fluids and Morphine. 1st dose of morphine didn't budge the pain.... but dose #2 mixed with Toradol did the trick just before he was wheeled off to the CT scan.

Jon in comfortable La La Land where kidney stones dont' hurt!

CT scan results: 4 mm kidney stone that was not even 1/2 way out.

In the meantime my "pleasant friend" that I met in the lobby while waiting for Jon to be triaged peeked her head into our room a few times with her pleasant smile asking me how Jon was and every time she'd pass by while roaming the hallway, she'd smile and wave... seriously, what was wrong with her, sore throat???, she didn't seem to be in any need of urgent care... I'll say it because I can... I am 99.9% sure that she was a Medicaid patient and went to the ER because she freaking can because she won't pay the bill - we will!! Pisses me off. That's all I have to say about that.

Jon was sent home with rx for Percocet, Zofran and Tylenol. Jon strained his urine x 2 days looking for the little Son of a B that caused him so much pain. Day 3, Jon decided to be brave enough and go to work, but not after experiencing a bout of pain before he left (which happened to be the last push of the stone before it reached the bladder) horray! Jon had to urinate while at his customer's house and noticed a little black rock at the bottom of the toilet that wasn't there before... So he picked it out (and washed his hands really well after I'm sure), and put it in his pocket. We decided to name it Zachary and I will not go into detail why that's his name. We are happy that Jon has moved on with his life, only I hope he's okay with the huge ER bill that we're still waiting to receive... it cost $375 just for the stupid radiologist to read both CT scans. We did receive that bill.

Fighting Diesel the Bulldog for a stupid pic

I work for Intermountain Healthcare. This year there was a contest within the Medical Group. In each facility there were "Buster" cut-outs, the English Bulldog hidden somewhere with a blank bubble coming out of his mouth. Now, what you have to know about Buster is that he reminds us of different important protocol within Intermountain such as Patient Privacy and remembering to use our PPE (Personal protective equipment), etc. My manager had 2 of my work buddies and I put on Pappers and N-95 masks for a picture at our clinic. She wanted to submit a picture so perhaps we could win a prize. That evening I had to travel out to Saratoga Springs to pick up Brock and had a funny idea. Brock has a real English Bulldog that looks just like Buster... and I thought it would be hilarious to take a picture with a Buster impostor. Only Diesel is a wussy dog that would run away every time I put the sign above his head. English Bulldogs are sooooooo strong and he'd practically carry me away. But at least I got some funny pictures with a funny memory. And bonus.... I won a stuffed animal bulldog for my submission! Disclaimer: I only think Intermountain's bulldog is called Buster... for all I know it could be Buddy, Brutus, Butthead or some other B name that I am omitting.

*** I am wearing my N-95 mask that I wore during the H1N1 outbreak...

Please forgive me Diesel! xoxo! tif

In-n-Out Happy Patrons

We are all about the hype of In-n-out Burger. When I lived in Las Vegas, this was just another restaurant with the most short, basic menu on the planet. I have never been a fan of hamburgers and greasy fries. But hey, I'm all about being part of the hype of In-n-Out coming to Utah. Thank goodness we did the In-n-Out thing months after it opened. I am NOT about 3-4 hour waits! I loved the hat they gave Gage, but I won't choose to eat there again. Welcome to Utah In-N-Out, Utah is that much cooler now that we have you! Wahoooooooooooooo

Primary Bulletin Boards

***Note: The above picture is Northpoint 1st Ward's Primary bulletin board before Tiffany Kortman got a hold of it! Ewwww

So I probably totally sound like a brat, but ever since I've been in the Primary Presidency, I have hated all the wards' bulletin boards in the Primary Room. Jon and I travel to many different LDS church buildings with our business and I have seen many different Primary rooms and have fallen in love with some of their cute bulletin boards. It is my personal belief that my gosh, it's Primary, the boards should be fun and cute and represent the yearly theme/kiddos in your ward! So I took matters into my own hands and re-did our Ward's personal board! Go me!! lol.... enjoy

After the destruction of previous bulletin board stuff.... looking better already!

I have to admit that this one isn't so bad, somebody took a little time on this one! And it's current!

Oh My Gosh! I don't even know what to say about this one.... I am speechless

This one I do believe receives the worst bulletin board ever award, the only thing it's missing are the manacles!

10.5 hours and $42 dollars later........... voila

I think it turned out alright. I did end up re adjusting the bottom line of "flower faces" to include 3 more so it didn't look so sparse. I have thoroughly loved the children from week to week looking at the board to find their flower-self. Gotta Love Primary... I am already in the process of designing next year's themed board!

Farewell Elder Colton Kilmer

I love my cousin Colton. I could list write a long list of all the things I admire about my young cousin. There is such an age gap that I actually remember every stage of his growing up years. Here are my top 3 things I love about Colton... #1, we're related and he's handsome #2, he is a like minded conservative (in other words, he totally has his head on straight) #3, he's a good kid (that says volumes) his goodness really shines through his countenance.

He got his mission call to Canada! We made the trip out to good old Morgan, Utah... old stomping grounds and got to feast inside the new addition of my old Highschool. Holy crap, I didn't even recognize it. Being there brought back so many memories. Can I just tell you how much I loved growing up in a small town and attending a school where I knew everybody by first and last names. The experience was priceless and our school spirit was amazing. Class of 1994 ROCKS.

We have the longest school song on record... and I still have it memorized, I would love to sing it for you sometime if you desire...

First Verse
In the valley where skies are so blue,
Where our hearts are all loyal and true,
Where there's joy in the air and goodwill everywhere,
Stands the school that we all adore.

We will love you our old Morgan High,
Til the stars cease to shine in the sky,
Live or die we stand together, sun or rain our school forever,
For we love you our Morgan High.

Second Verse
There's a place in our hearts all your own,
Tis the sweet tender longing for home.
May the deeds that we do reflect honor to you,
When far from your portals we roam.

Give three cheers for our old Morgan High,
Where we never say can't but I'll try,
Heart and hand to thee we render, brain and brawn be thy defender,
For we love you our Morgan High.

Third Verse
You're the best little school in the land,
From the freshies to seniors so grand,
From the shop with its' noise to our basketball boys,
For victory and honor we stand.

We are proud of our boys in the game,
They bring honor to Morgan's proud name.
They are never spoiled by winning, they can lose and keep on grinning,
They're the product of Morgan High.

Fourth Verse (Sung by Seniors at Graduation only)
Still you bring us an hour of regret,
When we smile while our eyelids are wet,
In our hearts there's a sigh, as we bid you goodbye,
Tis the hour that we won't forget.

Now we'll miss you our old Morgan High
From the hour we bid you goodbye,
But you've gilded all our sorrow with a bright hope for tomorrow,
And we love you our old Morgan High.

And you can ask most any Morgan High Grad. in a rough voice screaming......

WHO ARE YOU?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Trojans! lol

Gage's Last Day of Special Ed. Preschool

I have not looked forward to the day when Gage officially graduated from Sp.Ed. Preschool. I have loved his teacher, Monica, his Speech Therapist Amy and the 2 aides. I loved how the bus picked him up at 8 on the dot on Mondays and Wednesdays. It was so cute to see him get on the bus... here is the first day Gage got on the bus (October 2008) * Note cute "Werner" the bus driver... miss him.

I do believe he learned alot at school and came out of his shell a little bit more. His teachers seem to think that he has an anxiety disorder called Selective Mutism. An example of this is that sometimes when Gage is asked to talk, he will "growl talk". Which is hilarious. Sometimes I wonder if does it to make people laugh sometimes. There are ways to help with this. It is something that I have yet to take seriously and tackle. He's fine when he's home. But I do worry how it will be when he starts kindergarten, will he just refuse to talk to his teachers on bad days? Gage will attend Northstar's Preschool program for the 2010-2011 school year and will then attend Kindergarten the year after. Thank goodness Gage has a birthday near the deadline and will "older" for his class instead of younger. Here are his cute teachers with him on the last day of school. Washington Elementary June 2010.

Monica + her 2 aides and the rest of class... yes, all boys!

Posing for pictures, waiting for the bus... this is outdoors last day of school swim day

Gage is a happy graduate of Sp. Ed Pre K

Monica, I love you and miss you! xoxoxo~tif (and what is up with Gage's closed eye?) ~~??

Mother's Day 2010

I love Mother's Day with my 3 cute boys. This year we hung out at Tif's Parent's joint and had dinner. Dinner was on the Men. It was alot of fun to watch my Dad throw balls around with the boys and to see my little Gage throw. He has quite the arm. Can't wait to watch this little baseball playa grow up and blossom in his skills. I also have a wonderful mother and wonderful sisters who are now mothers.

Good Form G! xoxoxoxo ~tif

Trafalga Spring 2010

So back in the day when I was a little girl... decades ago in fact, I used to spend a week in the summer with my Aunt. It was always like the greatest week of my life because I'd get spoiled. One of the classic Happy Valley places she'd take me to was Trafalga in Orem, Utah. The main thing I used to remember is the big water slide that WAS Trafalga. These days the water slide is non-existent and the mini golf courses are kinda ghetto. Flash Forward to Spring 2010. We decided on a family adventure to Trafalga, despite the ghetto-ness of it all. And guess what, we had tons of fun. Current attractions at Trafalga include: 4-D Motion Theater experience, batting cages, arcade, mini golf (indoor and outdoor), go-karts, etc. Note: Gage's beautiful curls were cut the day after pics were taken. :(

Go #10!!

Gotta Love PDA on the golf course!
